January 30 : A Message from Dianne Oxberry

Dianne was the first weather presenter for Northwest Tonight. Now she does lots of news stories and interesting things.

Diane Oxberry of BBC Northwest Tonight was wondering about her family history. So we did some research and found that most of the Oxberry family came from Sunderland in Victorian Times. So we mailed her and she replied

How lovely of you to do this - thank you so much. Your information must be bang on because my Grandad Oxberry came from Sunderland! Sadly I can't return the favour weather wise - its dreadful but good luck on the inspection. thanks again

Dianne Oxberry

January 29 : An Important Visitor.

Today we had a very important visitor - the Vice President of the Methodist Conference.

Ann Leck is visiting churches in Lancashire and made a special visit to Hippings Methodist School. She told us that God is always with us no matter how we are feeling and had pictures of faces that looked sad one way up and happy the other. We sang our special John Wesley song to her.

January 28 : How to catch an escaped hamster.

Karen Greenwood, who is now at Rhyddings sent us an email with a tip about catching an escaped hamster. Here is her advice....

I think Truffle is so cute and if she ever goes missing again make a trap, (ie. get a small bucket and use her step ladders and hook it on to the side) if she likes cucumber, carrots ect, rub it on the ladders and put the rest in the bucket. she should smell the scent and climb up the ladders and into the bucket, where she can't get out! Hope that helps if there is a next time!

January 28 : Our School Inspection Starts

Our OFSTED inspection starts Monday, 28 January.

It will be a short inpection involving two inpectors (Mr Byrne and Mrs Forsman) for two days and another inspector (Mr Vineall) for one day. They will be looking at the work the children are doing and lots of other things. We hope they like our school.

Mr HJ would like to thank all the parents and Governors who have supported us so far.

January 22 : Truffle Causes Trouble!

On Tuesday our school hamster had a great escape. Truffle (2 months) lives in Year 1.

Miss Storr checked the night before if Truffle was there and she was. The morning after, the wheel and the ball were both on the floor and, although Miss Storr was very suspicious, she thought nothing of it. That dinner time, Emma Mercer, Corey Kitchener and Elliott Green spotted that Truffle was missing and went to report.

There was high excitement and all the classrooms were searched but nothing was found. Miss Storr said

"We don't know how she escaped . "

We searched every room until some Y2 children thought they saw him in the television room but it was a false alarm. Then we caught a quote from Mr Martin, the Y4 teacher,

" Maybe the hamster was protesting about her poor conditions and could see how nice Y4 was and was trying to get to their classroom."

Later, Y1 children found the hamster eating nuts behind the Y1 games cupboard. Truffle was then put back into his cage and was fed lots of treats by Y1. When interviewed later, Truffle said,

'I enjoyed my adventure but I'm glad to be back in my cage again.'

January 17 : Blackburn Rovers Teach Us Football

Today, Year Six had a special visit from Blackburn Rovers Training Academy to teach us some basic football skills. The skills we practised were passing, one touch and two touch passing, dribbling and drag-back turns.

January 16 : Rock Climbing

Year 6 have had a special visit from a professional rock climber named Trevor Ridehalgh. Trevor is from the local Methodist Church and used to be a Boys' Brigade Leader and a Governor of our school.

He showed us some of the most important climbing tools such as Crampons, Snowsaws, Pickaxes and Climbing Rope.

We really enjoyed it!

December 11 : Christmas is Nearly Here

We are practising hard for our Christmas Services.

The younger children are doing 'The Gigantic Star' on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon.

The Juniors are presenting a service about 'Christmas Around Europe' at Rhyddings Methodist Church on Wednesday 19 December.

Here is one of our stars with her special Lussibruden Crown. Lussibriden is the Swedish name for St. Lucia who is famous in Sweden.

This is the flag of Sweden.

The lights in Lussi's crown were supplied by Christmastime UK

Here are some Angels waiting to go onstage during the 'Gigantic Star' rehearsals.

November 15 : Firemen Visit School

Today we had a visit from Accrington Fire Brigade to tell us about the Fire Service and Fire Safety. The firemen parked their fire engine in the Juniors' Playground.

In Year 6, one of the firemen showed us the equipment that is worn when it's difficult to breathe and the smoke and fumes can stop the fiemen going into a building.

We learned how to be careful at home and what to do if a fire breaks out.

November 7 : Year 6 Visit Blackburn Rovers

We visited Blackburn Rovers for the 'Football In Education Day'. Our school has been doing this since 1993. We find out about the ground and the things that go on there and we work through a special booklet that teaches us all about Rovers. It's a brilliant day out!

A big thanks to Rose and Damien for all their work.

Here we are in the Blackburn End stand. We had to find our places from the Row and Seat numbers on some special matchday tickets. No one got lost (at least we don't think so!)

October 18 : Hot Pot comes for lunch

The school dinner children had a surprise visitor today in the shape of Hot Pot. he is the new mascot for the School Dinners and he hopes more and more children will stay to eat our delicious meals! Here he is with Mrs Rees, our cook.

September 1 New Extension is Finished!
When we got back to school in Septemebr, the new extension was finished! All the work was done and it looked wonderful. All the weeks of living in a building site had been worth it. Years 5 and 6 now have twice as much room in class. The extension has cost about £50,000.
Here are Mr Webb and Miss Hodgkinson, proudly looking at Year Five's new classroom. They have chosen blue as the main colour in their class.
This is the new library area and Year Six Class.
